Here at Congregation B'nai Israel, we are committed to insuring that Torah and Judaism remain vibrant in Baton Rouge by providing a dynamic and rich educational setting for our children.
Our Religious School curriculum works to create a growing sense of Jewish identity within our children by relating customs, values, celebrations, Jewish text study and social awareness to being an actively Jewish individual.
The school is a setting for animated discussions, dramatic role play, and creative, artistic endeavors. The concept of the Jew as part of the greater community is reinforced at different age levels through activities relating to Tzedakah, learning about the disabled and the elderly, and recognizing and assisting agencies that work to alleviate problems that are part of our world.
In addition to these school activities, our mornings are highlighted by music and Hebrew study, and special events made possible by volunteer parents and the generous efforts of the Sisterhood, Men's Club, and BaRFTY.
An important part of our curriculum is the F.A.I.R.E. (Families Are Involved in Religious Education)Program, designed to include parents and children in activities centered around Jewish learning. Our "Breakfast with the Rabbi" Program affords parents and students the opportunity to discuss a particular topic of Jewish interest with guidance from our Rabbi. We encourage parents to become involved by participating in special celebrations, panel discussions, and attending Family Services.
Congregation B'nai Israel offers Sunday morning classes for students in preschool through eighth grade. Our ninth and tenth grade Confirmation program meets on a weekday evening with Rabbi and includes a tenth grade trip to Washington, D. C., to the National Memorial Museum of the Holocaust, made possible by a generous gift from the Lee Berg Family.
Through this dynamic structure of learning, we strive to help each child recognize the richness of the history of Judaism and the values that are fundamentally important to leading a Jewish life.
