“Justice, justice shall you pursue.” (Deuteronomy 16:20)

At Congregation B'nai Israel, we actively seek to fulfill the commandment of Mitzvah. Throughout the year there are various opportunities to perform projects that benefit those in need. The Congregation organizes a Mitzvah Day for various Baton Rouge service agencies. Many Congregants participate in volunteer duty at hospitals on Christmas Day to allow hospital staff time with their families. Congregational members are active at the Holy Grill and on Boards of local interfaith and social service groups.

The Sisterhood has several projects it regularly sponsors. For more than 30 years, the Men’s Club has sponsored a Christmas Shopping Spree for Baton Rouge area children in need, allowing hundreds of children to have the opportunity to provide gifts for their own loved ones. The Youth Group sponsors food drives during the High Holy Days. Our Katrina Relief Committee was instrumental in providing direct support for hundreds of Katrina victims, and we continue with those efforts.

The duty of mitzvah is a call to your conscience. It is your opportunity to help in tikkun olam, repairing our world.
